OT: HDR-HC3 example footage from venice

dreamlx wrote on 2/19/2007, 11:21 AM
Hi,

Here is some HC3 footage shot in Venice. As it was during carnival and during this time there are a lot of people, I decided to take the HC3 without tripod. I added an ND0.6 to the HC3 in order to keep shutter between 50 and 100. The footage was deshaked using Virtualdub deshaker filter. In June, I will go one more time to Venice and I will take the FX1 with me as during June, there should be less people.

The footage can be found on http://www.luxmemories.lu/examples/hc3/venice.wmv

For people who don't know where/what Venice is, wikipedia has a nice description.

Bye,
David Arendt

One thing I've noticed with the electronic stabilization on my HVR-A1 (which is of course much like your HC3) is that the three settings (wide, standard, and tele) can be used as three intensities of stabilization regardless of the lens you use. You can use a wide lense with the 'standard' or 'telephoto' settings for more stabilization for instance.

The Venice footage looks really wonderful. I can't imagine it looking any better with the FX1. Deshaker is wonderful but timeconsuming. I sure wish Steadyhand worked with HDV footage so I could batch stabilize clips.

I'm using firefox and I'm not getting any error messge at all. just a blank firefox window that says "DONE" at the bottom, and that's it??

Never mind... I switched over to IE and it's downloading now... Thanks.

Yeah... That's HC3 footage alright... they're nice little cams. After seeing your footage though, I think I will have a careful look at that deshaker you mentioned.... mine is nowhere near as stable without a tripod.

Any regrets at not taking the FX1?

No, absolutely no regrets. There were so much people that I was really lucky that I have chosen based on your and other peoples advice to take the HC3 with me. The reason for going back in June is that Venice has always so much things to view that 3 days simply are not enough to view everything you like.
