For those that are interested...here's a link to some Hi Def versions of the King Kong trailer.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/kingkong/hd/

For those that can play the the 1080p version smoothly, please provide your computer specs, I'm running 3ghtz, Gig of Ram , 128 meg vid card and it stutters.

Other than that, it's pretty cool watching some nice High Def content that WASN'T filmed on an camcorder ( wink )

Interestingly enough, all the backlot stuff for KingKong was shot on a Z1.
As far as the stuttering goes, you might also try watching this in a different vid play other than quicktime. Or better yet, convert it to Windows Media HD instead.

But you're right, this is a pretty impressive bit of work, but remember that while some of it originated on film, most of the HD that you're seeing has never seen film nor videotape. It was generated as 60p in CG.

That's true. Like the latest Star Wars movies, very very few elements were actually captured by cameras.

Did ya get that 1080p version running smooth ? It's times like this I wish I had a 16x9 computer monitor. Be cool to see this projected.

What a truly exciting time to be involved in media production. I love this stuff !

Thanks for that Stan!

Mr Jackson's attention to "filmic" detail, in assuring the compelling sumptuous organic nature of what the "look" is, inspires me each time I see his work.

Good to see Kong getting that 30 yard receiving touchdown of the "Anne" character. T Rex must've been playing for the Raiders defence!

. .and lighting is just so terrifically important . ..

Grazie

Is it me of is there a lot of (too much IMO) motion blur going on? I watched it about 5 times to see if it was stuttering or if it was some sort of effect - and it always is at the same spots so it must be an effect. For example the shots of the girl when jack Black is talking in a VO about finidng the right actress - and we see here reach for the apple. Looks like slow mo but not the good kind - more like a post slow mo done for the trailer. And for sure in many of the qucik cuts with the effects - the dinos and even with kong. Just looks like motion blur overkiil...and really I never notice this sort of thing. Also there was the banding going on in some of the night stuff - the blue when they are at sea heading toward the "wall'.

Speaking of the HD stuff, after I installed the new QT yesterday i watched some of the trailers - watch the Harry Potter pomo for the new film - I am not a huge fan but I must say i am wanting to go see this. The effects look great, and I did nto see the same sort of blurring I saw in the kong promo. I also like animated stuff so i watched Ice Age 2 (cute - the squirel in another comic moment. I am seeing another Roger Rabbit type of thing happening here) and Chicken Little.

What's most impressive about Mr. Jackson's new movie is the $20M / 20 GROSS points he received doing it.

Man certainly has vision. I'm not a "Rings" freak, but they were stunning movies to look at.

I'm a big fan of Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures.

All that high budget stuff is pretty cool, but in reality I like the Clint Eastwood (as a director) type of movies better: good story, good characters, good acting, shot in a couple of weeks on just enough film to cover the action, and edited in a week (with a four hour break for golf every day). A good movie doesn't need to be as difficult as Peter Jackson makes it!

filmy? I didn't see any motion blur? oo-er .. . must've missed that .. .

Jackson gets paid for what he gets. I try too!

I found the Rings too "rich" for me . . but there again I'm still a fan of those "LEAN" movies, like "Lawrence of Arabia" . .er . .Laurence. Clint does it for me too.
