Just last week we had someone to break the glass on our storm door. I don't know if it happened while I was in the office or at night when we were sleeping. Behind that storm door is a wooden door that has a security sticker on it. I don't know if that stopped them or if it wasn't even an attempted robbery- it could have been a kid with a baseball for all I know. We do have a couple of fake cameras with wires running to them from a motion sensor that activates movement and a red light. They are visible and look realistic.

Inside our house, we have a battery back up monitored alarm system that is wireless and utilizes mobile phone towers. We have every door monitored as well as all of our rooms except the bedrooms and bathroom with motion censors.

One time my wife set it off on accident and didn't have her phone with her. The police were there in less than 2 minutes.

Laurence, let us know what your insurance covered. Hopefully you had your equipment under the right policy. I once got burned b/c my agent told me my equipment would fit in a personal articles policy. Once I had a camera broken during an event, they told me that since I used it for business it was not covered under that policy. My insurance person paid for it out of their own business b/c the mistake was on their end.

Much has already been said by others, hence no point repeating.
But I do have to say...

This s.u.c.k.s, Laurence. Wishing you the best, and hopefully some eventual silver lining to shine through for you.

One thing to think about when reporting to insurance co.... most won't pay on professional gear unless you have a special rider. So if this is more than a hobby... say what?....

Fortunately they didn't get into my pro gear at all. Funny thing is that I have an old battery back up power supply with a dead battery in it. It beeps every few minutes to let me know that the battery is dead. I've been meaning to replace it, but hadn't gotten to it yet. Anyway, I have this theory that the beeping may have sounded like an alarm and scared the thieves out of this room and maybe the house.

It turns out I have 500 deductible theft insurance so I won't be clobbered too badly.
