OT: hooking up External HDs and other PCs via 1394

Hey,
I recently moved and no longer have my network connection I had at my previous residence. I need to transfer some files off one PC to another by tomorrow and don't want to deal with networking right now. Can I not just hook up 2 PCs with a firewire and transfer files (like with an external HD)? Both PCs recognize my (full) External HD but refuse to recognize each other (XP home and XP pro). It seems I read here that you could do this, can someone tell me how?
TIA,
Randy

Randy, maybe not the best solution, but how about transfering what's on your external hard-drive to the new PC and the use the external hard-drive to get the stuff off the old PC.

I ran on a network with firewire but it is not very stable. I believe you have to set it up like a network by using the network wizard.

Oh well I think I'll just take Mario's advice and then hook up the ethernet later (if I can remember how).
Thanks guys,

Yep. That's it. You can go from PC to PC via firewire but it's treated as a network connection.
