As strange as it may seem, smart phone video has been used in a number of documentaries that I have appreciated, recently. Some countries are rather hostile to camera crews so reporters tend to shoot whatever they can hide.

This had a lot of camera phone content, as did this one. I suspect we'll see more of this kind of thing.

I'd prefer it wasn't so.

Broadcasters said much the same thing when Sony introduced the portapak in the mid 60s.
It went on to become the inexpensive camcorders that we know and love today.
My very first video in college in the early 70s was shot on one of these.
The cameras built into most of today's smartphones far exceeds what my first portapak was capable of - for a lot less money.
I give a lot of credit to the folks who are using and pushing the new technology way past what the manufacturer originally intended.
