I know this is OT to Vegas but you people have a wealth of info,
is it possible to have hyperlinks on a dvd and have that dvd play on a dvd player as wll as a computer, if so can you point me in the right direction
thanks
I'm doin a quote ,spec is asking for links to be on one of the menu pages to access various sites. want to accomplish getting the job , but need my facts before saying its not possible. Figure it can be done in some fashion for computer only , but don't know if its possible for my "figure it can be done "disc would play on a player
commercial DVD's that do this either a) say "go to www.blahblah.com" on a DVD screen or they used an autoplay to run a special DVD menu when inserted in to a computer.
Even if you had a hyperlink on a menu, exactly what and, more importantly HOW, would it access a web page? Is the DVD player internet connected? Does it have a browser that will display on whatever monitor the player is outputting to? Is it connected to a PC that is? If so, how does the DVD communicate with the PC? And here's the kicker: even if it did all that, how would one navigate the web page?

Don't know of any PC based player supporting something like this, and don't know of any DVD creation software that would allow it. Spec is bad.
You can, on the other hand, emulate such stuff using Flash or similar on a data DVD and using auto-play, but that would mean including two versions of the movie on a the DVD, one for players and one PCs.
Sonic used to have a program called eDVD that would take your DVD Authored to a folder and add Hyperlinks. eDVD
but apparently it is now discontinued because of problems w/ Vista. eDVD Discontinued
If you are running XP and you can find eDVD (maybe eBay) you will be able to add hyperlinks to your DVD's. It will/would also install the InterActual DVD player that you find on most Commercial DVD's if the end user so desires.
By the way... DVD Studio Pro WILL add hyperlinks.

- Via a web browser through your internet connection. Is the DVD player internet connected?
- It would need to be connected to the internet to view internet content. There is an info screen that tells the viewer this. Does it have a browser that will display on whatever monitor the player is outputting to?
- eDVD would include a browser that the DVD Author could tell to be the default or to just use the Default browser already assigned. Is it connected to a PC that is?
- Set Top players are usually NOT connected to the internet but there is probably some work around or way to do it if need be. If so, how does the DVD communicate with the PC?
- You would simply use your PC if it was available or use the work arounds (if available) And here's the kicker: even if it did all that, how would one navigate the web page?
- You would simply 'click' the link and your browser would open to the page.
