OT: I can run Firefox 3.0 + on W98SE now.

I know at least one forum member that has a W98SE machine in addition to other machines with 2000, XP, Vista, etc like myself.

Up until I found this I was not able to use Firefox past version 2. I am happy to report that by installing KernelEx v 4.0 Final 2 hosted at SourceForge.Net Firefox 3.57 installed flawlessly and is running fine on W98SE.

It's not that Firefox 3 has anything earth shattering to offer, but security fixes for Firefox 2.0 stopped quite some time ago so for that reason alone it is worth upgrading. Of course, the greatest security fix for the PC is not using IE or Outlook, but that's another topic.

Again, for anyone who is going to respond to this by saying - "Why are you still using Windows 98SE? I have an analog TV, do you want it?" - as I stated, it is one of many machines I run. I choose the OS by the power of the machine running it. I try not to "upgrade" past the usable limit of the PC's engine. I have a house filled with computers.

So for anyone who wants to try this I linked the forum where I found it and the download link. It purportedly allows some other programs that only run on XP or higher to also run. They are listed in that forum thread.

Kernel EX can also can be safely uninstalled using the W98E Control Panel's "Add and Remove Programs".

Follow-up. I uninstalled Firefox 3.57 and reinstalled Firefox 2.0. Firefox 3.57 is a bloated resource hog by comparison. Slow as molasses compared to version 2.0 even with extensive tweaking.

Opera 10.10 installed with the kernel and is just as fast as version 10.0 was. Lightning fast compared to Firefox 3.0 +
