Why would I have to do that? Couldn't I just edit AVCHD right out with that thing? I mean that is like a mega computer... I am hoping I can eliminate the step of having to convert every single file.
Right now I am going to AVI... the quality is average at best (non HD). Can i do Cineform in PeachRock Multi Render? I have never heard of Cineform until this moment.

Thanks man,

Peace

Ice, you don't need Cineform or any proxies if your computer is fast enough. The fastest Intel and AMD processors can edit AVCHD fine, even multicam. For a single track, you can even preview some video effects in real time without rendering, depending on the effect of course. I'm currently editing a 3 angle multicam project with the system I just assembled, with a AMD Phenom II 1090T CPU, and it works very smooth, although I have to use Vegas 9 32 it with the memory hack because the 64 bit version still has some bugs. But I can play all three AVCHD streams in real time in full size.

I agree - try AVCHD first before buying Cineform. I went to Cineform when I found that too many MP4-type files on the TL resulted in quirks (red frames, as I recall, but could have been rendering issues).

In any case, I do a lot of green-screen work, and I prefer to render all the pre-key plugins (chroma blur, saturation of green, smoother, deinterlace when required, etc.) and put the rendered clip on the TL so that chromakeyed preview will be tolerable, and to speed up final render.

I also seem to have improved stability by getting rid of the variety of codecs that otherwise would be required from my HDV cams, MP4 cams, and purchased clips that usually come in QuickTime .MOV containers. Now that I convert everything to Cineform (and have added several hard disks for holding stills, cam1 clips, cam 2 clips, etc.), I NEVER have any quirks whatsoever in Vegas when editing in 8c and rendering in 9C-32 or 9E-64 - 100% pure joy.

Ditto here.
