OT: Importing .VOB files from a Live DVD recorder like a Panasonic DMR T-3040

Every time I convert the file to .mpg, use DVD-AVI (may not be doing it properly) or whatever else, I get a 20 some second long clip that only shows the first 20 seconds of the video, unless I click in the middle of the clip, in which case I start at the middle, but then get the middle 10sec. until it gets to the end of the clip. Any body use this model, or have a link or knowledge that could help me out here, anyone? just a little nudge to get me started?

Thanks guys :)

Dave

use dvd decrypter and extract as a stream ...

the pana (and others) throws in a lot of EOF's in the header ...

lots of info at videohelp.com

Or use a DVD Ripping program like ImTOO (with the Panasonic DV Codec) to rip an avi file right off the DVD directly.

By the way, I've tried pretty much every DVD ripper out there. The ImTOO one gives the best rips by far. Most of them rip video with jerky motion.

Also, the other ImTOO tools like the DVD audio extractor work really well as well. They aren't that expensive either. I was impressed enough with them to buy them all. They really are handy.

you must have not tried to many dvd rippers or audio extractors because that is one of the worse ones around based on a survey of 1000's of users ....

and converting mpeg to dv is just going to reduce quality further .... and another color compression (and then i expect , back again to mpeg) ...

ripping a mpeg file from a vob steam will not give you jerky motion ... no mater what you use ..

i dont think that that ripper will handle those stand alone pana dvd burner small vob files anyway .... they will choke many programs ...
