OT - Inking Blu-rays with HP D5160

CVM wrote on 10/13/2011, 2:42 PM
So sorry to go way off-topic here, but I cannot find a solution. Perhaps one of you have encountered this.

After editing and burning BD disks with Vegas, I always inked them fully (edge-to-edge) using my HP D5160 inkjet printer using Taiyo-Yuden Watershield disks. When I upgraded to Windows 7, the printer leaves an non-printed strip at the bottom of every disk

See here for a perfect example of my problem from another person:

I can't figure out how to align the disk tray, or fix this. My disks look second-class with this problem. I love the printer otherwise; it has printed hundreds of disks for me.

Thoughts?

CVM, I don't know how to align the disk tray with your sofware, but I recently bought a Canon printer and also got Acoustica's CD/DVD label maker. It has a facility for adjusting the print position up/down or sideways. I paid $21 for the program and it is so much better than the software that came with the Canon, or my previous Epson printer. There is a free trial that you can test whether it will meet your needs: http://www.acoustica.com/cd-label-maker/index.htm

I have used a program called Surething. Here. For my Epson and for other label templates, it has an alignment procedure and allows for custom templates. It wasn't terribly expensive.

Another vote here for Acoustica - works perfectly every time with my HP C5580.

I don't have a software issue (I use Photoshop Elements). The printer printed perfectly on disks before the upgrade to Windows 7.

I think another software program would have the same issue... as the label looks perfect in Photoshop... it's in the printing where the issue occurs.

Additional thoughts?

It sounds as though the default margins for printer have been set differently with the new Win7 drivers.

CVM, in the images you linked, the whole image on the right is shifted up which explains the blank portion at the bottom. Are your prints shifted up too?

I'm thinking it's a margin issue as previously suggested.

CVM said,"I don't have a software issue (I use Photoshop Elements). The printer printed perfectly on disks before the upgrade to Windows 7. "

Actually I think you do have a software problem in that it does not work correctly with the Windows 7 driver.

I have the HP-D5160 and have use it with Windows XP, Windows Vista and now Windows 7 64 bit.

I have used the same software on all and I have the same results as I always have.

The software I use is Discus Labeler by Magic Mouse.

So I would suggest contacting the vendor for the software you use and see if there is a Windows 7 update and/or if they have a solution.

If they don't have an update and/or solution then try another software such as Discus.

Important note: The printer setting on the main screen of Discus does not work! Just tell it to print and use the printer’s printer settings dialog. Also, if you don't want to use color be sure to check the setting for grey scale only so you don't waste color ink. By default it is not checked for color.
