OT-ish: Boris Graf3 - What's your experience been?

Okay friends, whose got on with BG3? - I've had some great assistance from one Vegas colleague here, but at the moment I just don't get it!

1 - Slow responses via vegas.

2 - The finished Update/Apply to vegas looks ropey

3 - The render times are, well BIG - So big I haven't gone near the more "labour" intensive 3-D stuff yet.

4 - Defaults t/l events duration to its factory setting - 00:00:01,05. I have to SET the duration for the event I want - It wont take the underlying video as the duration I want. I suppose this is correct . .but seems weird if it is a Plug-In to vegas and therefore takes into acocount the Video the tex t it's lying on top of . . .

Please tell me some good stories about BG3, quick! - I want to work this s/w with Vegas . .

Grazie

i just got the demo this weekend, and havent played with it much , but I cant seemed to get it to work directly in Vegas. should you be able to see your text (for example in the vegas preview window as you are editing it?

I tried Boris G3 and I was consfused out of my mind, and combined with a general lack of patience, it wasn't a good match for me. I decided to get Ulead 3d Production Studio, and with the alpha channel AVI overlay export option, all has been great in Vegas!

But in your case, assuming you have already purchased the program, find all the tutorials you can. Keep in mind that it has a STEEP learning curve, and takes time for even the pros to learn.

Thanks guys . . the learning curve really doesn't worry me too much . . but for me there are some inherent "user" interface issues that I really don't get . . the Vegas plugability is totally weird. You can use the plug, come back to S-V and then try and preview. The Vegas t/l cursor proceeds in snatches and grabs at the position it wants to be at . . I don't think Boris have this bolted down - yet! IMHO, when I bought the full BG3 package and have it installed, it just doesn't behave with Vegas in the way that Boris would like it to work with the now SONY acquisition of Vegas . . C'mon Boris sort it out, please . .do I think I'd up-grade to Red on my current experience? You can answer this . . ..

No, seriously I am not happy - I'm not happy at all. But I'll persist. If I could get some of the "other" benefits to work with Vegas, then I'll be happy and - I think those of you who do know me - when I loooove something I really do get very enthusiastic about it. However, there is the other side of me, too!

Grazie are you doing tutorials with it ! ..I think it takes time to become familiar with something like this. I went with adobe AE. I Hated it at first. Now Im starting to see it as a Friend. and the logic makes sense once your familiar with it.

My Advice would be dont get mad get even and show it whos Boss.

Thanks Mark! - I needed some "moral-support" . . or should that be some Martial-Support - HAH!

Oh yes, I'm doing the Tute thang !

There are many ways to get things done in BG3. I can use the Plug-in in Vegas. I can use the standalone "Keyframer from the BG3 interface. I can save my work in both ways. BUT, it's only in BG3 as a standalone that I can export an update to Vegas. In the standalone Keyframer I can save as a "Library" item. THEN once I fire up Vegas and then apply the BG3 plugin I can THEN import from the library THAT new piece of Standalone Keyframer work - got it?

Okay, I can also save my work in the standalone as a COPY BG3 project and THAT is what I would use. I must say the Manual - for me - aint that transparent . . believe me. B-RED has the Red engine as part of the standalone Keyframer . .BG3 - we think - doesn't. Hence the need to do a bit of a dance - yeah? However, having the standalone keyframer for BG3 does mean - I suspect - that "others", graphics artists - can "create" a graphic sequence, send this to an editor online and THEN she/he can use it WITHIN BG3 or FX or RED. The Standalone Keyframer is supplied as a free package. This is neat! So, if you wanted to do some FX or Text BG3 or even RED, I suppose, text manipulations, all you would need to send me would be the this file. I would open it up in Vegas, use the plugin for BG3 and I would have your creation over my edited sequence - That's Great! .. .

Now, in terms of my development, all of this would not have been possible had it not been for possible if I hadn't had the most recent . .and I mean in the last 2 hours . . support from our friend and colleague here -PAW! -A big thanks to him . .

I now just completed this BG3 Tango/Waltz and have whizzed this off to a mate so he can see what I've been able to achieve - I'm really proud of what I've accomplished . .

Do I wanna go with U-Lead . . with the options I can now see present within BG3 . .er, you try and take it off me NOW!?!?

Oh, I will still come back here with gripes . . but at least I've got some early wins under my belt . .makes me want to persevere.

. . regards,

Grazie
