John:
Used the analog feed like you said and it worked fine. Also viewing 6 ft away from TV. The live HD feeds are spectacular. I find myself looking at all the backgrounds with millions of little people in the stadiums waving tiny little pieces of cloth or flags on Monday Night Football. The colors and facial tones remind me more of film than film. The recordings to the hard drive are flawless . One of the channels has low signal strength and does screw it up a lot for that channel. Now I understand what "virtual channel numbers" are. Our channel "3" broadcasts three channels on channel 2, one HD, one SD, and one RD. Channel "5" on channel 5 and 15, channel "8" on channel 31, channel 17 on 17.1 thru 17.4, channel 19 on 10, channel 43 on 28.
Sometimes they are on and sometimes they are off causing constant
auto detecting or guessing to receive the channel. When they are not broadcasting true HD they broadcast digital RD which scales properly on some channels but not others. The recent broadcast of Sound of Music was zoomed to fill the 16 x 9 screen instead of letterbox. The quality was still very good. The Views of Las Vegas on CSI are also spectacular in detail. You can also read the papers and notes of closeups and they are not just jiberish as they have all of the pertinent info of the program that is being viewed. The What does drive me nuts on some programs is the "follow focus" when three people are on the screen and at different distances and as they speak the focus changes to each person. This is very annoying on big screen stuff. Now I have also added a Samsung 165 tuner so I do not have to turn on the computer while watching TV unless I want to record. But the Samsung "smoked"
so I am waiting for a replacement from B & H.
I am totally stoked on the HD format and can't wait for the cameras and the DVD recording. The resolution seems good enough to even have the camera select a 2.5 x 1 widescreen mode and show it letterbox.
