ot: lcd monitors

just taken delivery of 17" samsung lcd. i'm very happy with the brightness, stability of display, etc., but a bit pissed off that i can't seem to get the system/screen fonts to the right size for my aged eyes.

working with it's default res. (1280X1024), and everything at default (dpi in adaptor display/regular font in display), everything is much too small. upping dpi gives me (on large fonts) too bigger fonts and setting inbetween, edgy, slightly fringed...

working through display settings i can get close to the size i want, but with a certain degree of colour fringing.

what's the best way to set up font size with an lcd?

happy with the change, but.....

Leave the display set to it's native resolution of 1280x1024. Any other setting will blur the image substantially. In the display setting screen click the Advanced button, and then under the General tab choose Custom setting for DPI. You should be able to choose any value here with equal sharpness as Windows will scale the fonts to whatever size you choose.

Also
If you haven't already done it, go to display properties/appearance/effects/ and select "cleartype" to smooth out your screen fonts.

thanks gents, you made my eyes very happy:

everything to default; dpi on display to large font, ditto icon on display, and now i can actually read what i'm typing!!!
