I think the light would fit straight on, the standard light spigot it 5/8" and from memory the tube on a mic stand is 5/8".

If all else fails checkout Manfrotto, they make every adaptor knwon to man and then some.

Then again I'd be a tad nervous putting a light on a mic stand and light stands are pretty cheap. I've gone the other way around at times though with a mic and my Reflexions filter, just too heavy for a mic stand.

I think what you want is like the MA-200 or MA-300.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't aware that a light stand and mic stand were both 5/8". I just ordered one of the 5/8 to 3/8 adapters (the Videomic I have needs the 3/8" to thread into), so I'll give that a shot.

Bob, I am actually planning on doing what you said: putting a mic on a light stand. I'm going to try using my v1u in an interview this weekend, running a Videomic on a light stand close to the subject into one of the XLR inputs (obviously using an 1/8" to XLR adapter).

Adaptors and 'grips' thingies are always a good investment. I bought a cheap largish toolbox that I'm slowly filling up with such bits and pieces. Unlike cameras these things last forever.
The other good tip I picked up from an old hand is to keep a basic makeup kit in the car and a selection of plastic fruit and flowers. Of course now that we're in HiDef land some of his old plastic fruit mighn't quite make the grade.

Since you are talking about the Rode VideoMic, which has a hotshoe (ie "cold shoe") mount, another option is to use a normal flash+umbrella mount on top of the light stand (though I'm not sure how standard light stands are?)

Here is an example: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/50067-REG/SP_Systems_SPBRACK_Multi_Bracket.html

Slide the VideoMic into the shoe, and angle up or down as needed.

I already had such a setup from years ago with my 35mm photography gear (ie light stand with umbrella clamp) and have used it many times with my VideoMic. Having the clamp lets you angle the mic as needed.

Tim,
Excellent link. I'm putting together quite an order this week for B&H, and I just added that item. Thanks much.
