I must have missed something in M-Audio's marketing...cuz these sure wouldn't ever be my recommendation for gaming...
If you don't need the kind of sonic detail studio monitors are supposed to render, then the LX4s are still a sound, though expensive choice. In the two satellite/subwoofer category, the Logitech Z2200s deliver a whole lot of sonic love for about $120. If you're in the market for a high-end 5.1 PC speaker rig, then Creative's GigaWorks S700s are well suited to that task at around $350 ($450 with the Dolby Digital/DTS decoder box).

Interesting that he'd recommend two speaker sets made in the same factory by the same company. Having a computer guy review studio monitors is like asking a Walkman buff to review a Martin Logan system. Not a bad review, but from an audio professional's point of view, seems like he missed the point of the LX4. At least he liked them, even though they don't have headphone jacks, volume controls, and you can't access the xover dial. (I'm not familiar with any pro system that puts the xover dial out where anything could bump it. Once set, it should always be set and never messed with.
