One thinks of what might have been for South Africa (and the world for that matter) if there were more like him.

He will be missed, We were fortunate in South Africa to have had 2 presidents who had the respect of the people, the other president was Thabo Mbeki. Mbeki did not follow and questioned the direction from the UN the result was we woke up one morning and he was president no more. We now have a president who is on par with the rest of the world leaders which standard is below the common scumbag.

I know Rory . . .I know . . . . I have many friends and relatives in SA.

You are correct. Nelson will be missed, and hopefully his words and his ways will continue to keep echoing down the corridors of power in CT and Pretoria. That includes your voice and your ways too.

It was anticipated after his recent bout in hospital but still it came as a shock when I heard the news today.
Who will fill shoes of his size for the next generations?

Yes, it's the world that has lost Nelson Mandela, not just South Africa.
