OT (maybe..) : Audio Library for Free - YouTube..

Grazie wrote on 10/4/2013, 2:16 AM
This is a NEW service by YouTube:"Download background music for your videos. For free."

I know this is NOT everybody's cuppa Tea, but in those instances where you/me might want a quick audio piece.

OK, it's not clear if I can use this music for anything other than YT uploads, meaning could I use this for a client's requirements? Meaning can I SELL my video with this music as background?

I like the Ode to Joy - Beet's No9

Blue Danube - 2001 and all that!

Interesting . . .

yeah, got an email from youtube offering the library....

seems an 'easy' way for them to avoid music take downs, though i doubt many 'kids' will pay much attention, but for us, well it's another source, if somewhat bland....

if anyone come across any 'goodies', please add to grazie's couple ;-)

I think this feature is going to burgeon. YT are definitely onto something.

YouTube's been doing this for about a year, and I doubt that you can use their music outside of GoogleWorld: "Using our Services does not give you ownership of any intellectual property rights in our Services or the content you access. "

Thanks Steve.

YouTube has not been doing this for about a year. It's only a couple of weeks old. Previously (and still) you could swap out the audio on a video under the "Edit" menu. That would then mean that you couldn't monetise a video.

The Audio Library under "Creation Tools" is different. You can actually download a track for offline editing and use it royalty-free on a monetised YouTube video. These are the "Additional Terms & Conditions":

"Your use of this music library (including the music files in this library) is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. Music from this library is intended solely for use by you in videos and other content that you create.

Additionally, YouTube's own Creators' Blog states you can use the tracks "for free, forever, for any creative purpose (not just YouTube videos)". But I've yet to see any official licence or T&C that explicitly states that.

Bear in mind that this music is going to get used over and over and over again. The better tracks will become easily recognisable, especially if YT don't add to the library.

Nick thanks for confirming it is "New"! I saw the little "New" box next to this . . er . . "New" feature and thought interesting, I'll take a look see!

And your : "But I've yet to see any official licence or T&C that explicitly states that." is exactly where I've got to too and why I brought it up here with my chums.

Again your: "Bear in mind that this music is going to get used over and over and over again. The better tracks will become easily recognisable, especially if YT don't add to the library. " has some really, potentially Global-Mind-Blowing options. Yes, and there will be awful stuff, but there could be some truly outstanding and youthfully-rich sound experiments too! I can't wait to group up with a Bengali Satir player and a Jamaican Reggae guy through YT to produce/edit a YT Quick n Dirty entertaining piece. What a showcase!

Honestly? I see this as yet another option for full on Creativity and the SOONER SCS gets its act together working with YT on this the better. Massive!!!

Presently we have a direct Route ONE to the YT platform, directly from my VP12 Timeline - luv it... : Now, why not an ACID-ROUTE1 too - could be very very special.

SONY CREATIVE, wake up!!!

Very exciting...... We could also have ad hoc groupings of Vegas-Jocks and Acid-Jocks teaming up for maybe 1,2 days or even just 1,2 hours to "Get-it-on!"

Well, there goes another industry. Nice music, though...

Nick- I must have been beta testing it without knowing.

I shot a local production or "The Nutcracker" and used a scene in it for demo purposes. Around June, Google sent me an email "suggesting" that I should go to the Audio Library to replace the "copyrighted" content in my video.

I replied that the music was performed by a High School orchestra and all performers had signed releases. No EMI vinyl were harmed in this production. I never heard back from them and the demo is still on YouTube.

Besides the locally captured music performed by the High School orchestra was much better then the flat, mono crap Google wanted me to use.

Grazie, don't you remember Cinescore?

To butt in...

I not only remember it, I use it at least once a week. Some of the tunes are starting to sound a little dated, but it is still very good stuff. I have started collecting SmartSound music packs when they go on sale, but Cinescore is still relevant.
