OT: Mixing Canon HV20 24p & Canon A1 24f

I own the Canon HV20 and am considering buying a used Canon A1 HD. I have no problems capturing and editing "24p" shot with the HV20 using Vegas 8.0b, HDV 60i project settings. I have read some of the older threads concerning A1 "24f" capture problems, but I don't mind trying out HDVsplit if I have to. But I'm wondering about the following if I edit a 2 camera shoot using both cameras:

1. Would I set my project properties to progressive?

2. Is there any difference in the "look" of HV 20 "24p" and A1 "24F"?

3. If I throw in a 3rd camera angle shot at 60i into the project and render out the completed project at 24p, will the 60i footage look very different from the 24p/24f footage in the final render?

Thanks in advance,
Aldo.

I have both of those cameras as well. What problems are people having capturing 24f in Vegas? For me, Vegas sometimes splits the footage for no reason even though scene selection is turned off. Is that the problem that people are reporting? I tried using HDVSplit but Vegas has a hard time reading the footage captured with HDVSplit. For example, Vegas can not build the audio peaks properly on footage captured with HDV split. It's also slower when playing back the footage. The files captured with HDV split are pretty much unusable so I just deal with Vegas capture. I use Vista 64 with Vegas 8.0c by the way.
When dealing with footage in 24f/p from the HV20 and A1, you would set your project properties to
HDV 1080-24p (1440x1080, 23.976 fps)
If rendering to 24p, you must first convert the 24p footage from the HV20 because the HV20 does not record flags in the footage like the A1 does. Vegas will not realize that the footage from the HV20 is 24p and if you render to 24p, it will give you pretty crappy results.
Neo Scene converts this to true 24p in real time while capturing but you can also follow these instructions for pulldown removal
http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/07/13/canon-hv20-24p-pulldown
This is a free utility but it requires some set-up.

The 60i footage will look different when converted to 24p but some programs are able to convert the 60i footage to 24p with pleasing results. I think Vegas does an ok job at this as well so you may not have to convert it first.

"sometimes splits the footage for no reason".......yeah that's the problem I was referring to:

Thanks for your input, Jim. That clears up a lot of things.

When I use Vegas 8 with my XHA1 on 24F, I get frame blending. The resulting renders are very choppy and you can see shadows of at least 2 frames in some frames. Anybody else know what this is?
