OT: More good copyright news from down under.

Seeing as how I've got a room full of kit for dubbing almost any audio format to CD I'd thought of offering this at a retail level until I thought about the copyright issues.

Well down here (Australia) at least not a problem, just get a blanket licence. You could pay $0.18 per track however $118 covers you for a year of upto 75 albums. If business booms no sweat either, just pickup the slack in next years licence.

Oh and no, you don't have to trash the original, in fact the gent on the phone was quite mortified at the thought of anyone destroying vinyl !

Bob.

Edit: Just another tidbit, vinyl sales increased 20% down here last year while CD sales slumped, a new vinyl plant has started up in Sydney.

Astronomers, who presume their subject planet/star/moon is viewable using a telescope and given the type of telescope they've chosen as their foundation, do in fact run with the convention that the south side of a planet is in fact the top.

It is us northern hemispheritics that ought to get used to being down at the arse end. ;)

I wish we (Britain) already had the very much more mature approach to getting at least some money moving in the right direction and the value added by having the equivalent antipodian copyright policies that Bob has mentioned. Do artists and labels really worry that much about how their work is represented? I thought they just wanted to be popular and pay their bills....

Preferably with a lot of popularity and more than enough to pay very large bills!

Probably what makes the difference is the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) is a NPO that works for musicians. They and AMCOS run awards for musicans and screen composers, have production music at reasonable rates and in general do a good job of looking after both the users and the producers of music.

That's it! I'm moving to Oz. How much to rent a bungalow down there? (I'll be sure to take all the equipment I can afford before moving though; I would sure hate to pay what you guys pay for equipment.)
