OT: My Take On The XL2

The camera has come up several times in various threads since it was announced and thought I would throw this out there for any who are interested. I'll preface this by saying that while I've worked with other cams, I've been a fan of the XL line for awhile now.

So I've had the XL2 for about a week now and gotta say I'm blown away. The image quality is breathtaking. I haven't had the time to post any of my own footage but this thread on DV Info has some great looking stuff. Keep in mind that the poster states "All were shot in 30p 16:9 with camera settings on default. " As great as these look, I can't imagine how they would have looked at 24p with some tweaking:

I will say that it is a bit heavier due to the 20x lens. Because of this I held onto my 16x from the XL1 I sold. I also kept my CRT, though I love what they did with the new viewfinder LCDs just aren't sharp enough for me when I'm trying to grab a focus. If ya don't have the CRT as an option, I'm sure most will be thrilled with the bigger LCD and the flip up option.

Being able to preset focus and zoom points are cool, but wish they were a little more flexible on their speed. The " Slow " just isn't slow enough IMHO. The speed control on the jog shuttle is right on the money though and you can now make more precise adjustments than you could with the ZR 1000 Zoom Remote Control.

One thing I truly love are some of the advanced image controls. With previous XL's, though I loved em to death, were at times a bit oversaturated for my taste. This is easily fixed and from my limited use so far, I see a lot less color correction in my future.

I'll keep ya posted as I get more time with it and also let you know when I have stuff posted. I've only had the opportunity to use it on one job so far, but as the majority of the job had already been filmed on my last XL1s I kept the XL2 in 30p for continuity. Kind of a drag but defiantly looking forward to the next gig.
