OT Mythbusters

Anyone see Mythbusters this week on Discovery? They attempted to bust the myth that a duck's quack doesn't echo. The "Audiologist" that they brought in was using Vegas and Sound Forge 7. I couldn't tell which version of Vegas it was, but the Sound Forge was pretty clear. Kinda fun to see, and kinda fun to see/hear some of the exaggerations that they used regarding audio. But was impressed to see Forge and Vegas on the show.

And as any intelligent person would surmise, a duck's quack DOES echo.

I live in the city, what is this "duck" you are referring to?

Those things John Kerry was shooting at a week or two ago to show that he supports sportsman. :)

FYI: Muscovy ducks don't quack. They hiss. And they are pretty mean.

I wish I had cable/dish to see that show. That would of been cool.

They hang around in Chinese restaurants. Eat in or take home. Delicious!

Seriously, about ducks and cities-see them all the time in the bay area. On the bay, in the tidal wetlands, in the city lakes and ponds.

Seriously about Vegas-good to hear of it making a cameo. Vegas is great for institutions because of it's ease of use and low overhead.

If a duck quacks in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it STILL make an echo?

I caught Mythbusters for the first time the other day. I learned you can raise a sunken ship using tens of thousands of ping pong balls and for a 20lb child to be lifted away by a bunch of balloons from circus vendor, the bunch would have to have about 4,000 balloons. Pretty cool show.

Mythbusters is a great show... I miss it.. no cable here =( (no time for it; so no need to pay for it)

No, the foliage would dampen any possible echo....

And, wouldn't the individual reflections of the Quack, in the forest, echo off the individual leaves, of the individual foilage in each individual forest, cause another hurricane in Florida? Save the duck! Wipe out Florida! John

So I guess the only remaining question is:

Does a lame duck's quack echo?

We'll find out in a couple weeks, won't we? :-)
I'm THRILLED TICKLED GIDDY that John Ashcroft is gonna be hitting the highway.

And no one has to be around to hear the duck. Microphones would allow us to time-shift the event.

So do you suppose that was what was on his back during the debates? A quack-echo stealth device?
