OT: need some free nature SFX....

TheHappyFriar wrote on 4/30/2006, 8:45 AM
but I need some country, relaxing, birds tweeting SFX. All I can find online is jungle, spooky, loud, exotic, etc.

I tried hanging a mic out my window (because it's a great day & the birds are having a wonderful time) but it's not loud enough for my mic to pick up. Anyone know where I can get some free ones, or cheap ones with samples I can preview before I buy?

You can try this site, haven't checked specifically for what you want, but they're free.
http://www.grsites.com/sounds/misc009.shtml
using that same address, change the misc numbers to 011or 015 or 016.
those are the pages that had bird sounds.
Also, I know I could get those sounds from a Tiger Woods Golf game, but they're usually sampled at a weird rate (22K or 11K or mono). Plus you have to find them, as they are usually titled in code. Some other types of video games have those sounds. You can find free rate converters, but as you can see, it's becoming a big hassle too. (you may also be able to play / loop the sound through your system and just record it at the rate you want. This might be faily easy to do.)
Also, check all the files of any editing programs you have, sometimes you can find sound FX like this too. (for example, I used to try any free program I could find and some of these had some sound FX built in.)

Try Googling "Nature Wav". I got heaps of pages, the first being this,
http://simplythebest.net/sounds/WAV/sound_effects_WAV/nature_wavs.html
Googling with the word Wav, ensures that you get better quality audio. IMO, it's not worth using anything MP3, because the artifacts are always evident.

Cheers,
