OT: need some help with 2.0 usb ext drive

I know lots of you guy's out there are using the external drive enclosures with 2.0 usb.
I just got an I/O magic 3.5" enclosure and inserted a formatted 120 gig drive.
When I connected it to my usb 2.0 card (belkin 5 port card) it says "unknown usb device not recognized" "problem with device",and wont see the device.
If I connect it to one of the built in 1.1 usb ports it see's the drive and will work but at the 1.1(ugh!) speed. I made sure the drivers for the card are the the most recent.
Any suggestions or known prob's you guys have had with either the card or the enclosure of this type?

Well, do you know the enclosure supprts USB 2.0? Also, does your USB2 card work with tother things: mice, joysticks, etc?

I've got a Firewire/USB1.1/USB2.0 enclosure that work great. My USB 2 ports are in my MB though.

Do you need power for your drive (external). Have you tried it in someone else's computer to see if it could be a drive thing?

thanks for the input Friar,
yes it is a usb2.0 drive enclosure, comes with its own power supply ,and I use other usb devices on the usb 2.0 card,(shuttle express, printer etc) but these are all 1.1 devices so I'm not sure if it's a card thing,I think I'll take your advise though and bring it to work monday and try it on a new machine with oem 2.0 usb ports.
