I have a Windows XP pc and an OSX mac on my desk at work. Don't think for a minute that OSX doesn't have a ton of patches to install just like the Windows computer does. The autoupdate feature on the mac reminds me quite often of that fact.

The differences are a) that OS X has less than one tenth of the number of Windows patches, and even with that, they include Apple application updates (something that MS only saw fit to start doing a few weeks ago), and b) the security patches are nearly 100% for holes that were found in the lab rather than in the field, i.e. Apple is proactive rather than reactive.

My pet peeve with Microsoft software is otherwise that in many cases their latest application versions have the same major bugs they have had in successive updates for more than 10 years.
