OT: New computer conflict with Vegas capture

I've just had a new computer built by a reputable company. I'm running XP on an Athlon 62x 2 dual core. Motherboard is an Asus M2N32 SLI de Luxe. The graphics card is an Asus 7300GT. Whenevever I engage the "Capture" button in Vegas 6, the computer crashes and, on firing up next time, it gives a 'Serious Error" warning.
It quotes:
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : F6EFA3FB BCP3 : F5996438 BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

It doesn't crash under any other circumstances and I can happily edit with Vegas until I try to capture. Aplolgies if posted to wrong Forum, but some of you gurus may be able to help. Thanks.

I have no idea. I do think there are some firewire connections that don't work well. Pending better replies I'd try other firewire connections to the PC. If it's onboard try a PCI firewire add-on, if it's a PCI firewire move it to a different physical slot on the motherboard.

Best,
