I've got a 900 that i had to import myself and now Cannon are going to sell this unit here, damn! It should be fine although I thinks it's a little more fiddly to switch to CD printing than the Epson. Need to look at cost of cunsumables as well. I think Canon have a bit of a sting in that area but I maybe way out of date with that.

Hi farss...

I picked up a Epson 900 too awhile back and like it. Only printed a few DVD's with it so far and while the alignment of the label is OK, it seems that the colors are always washed out. I know you can increase the density, just wondering if you and others did as well to get desired results. It just seems the coating they use on the DVD surface really soaks up the ink.

What I'm worried about if I increase the density that it could risk the ink seeping through into the layer that's burned. It just seems odd since I can print out the label on paper and the image contast is good so it seems the DVD is what's soaking up the ink.

Different DVDs seem to have a different kind of coating. To get the best reulst I've wound up the ink density a notch or two. But I think the problem is that the surface you're printing to is quite different to paper, it is extremely matt so the colors will look a bit flat.

You also need to be careful about teh exact finish, there is a white thermal printable and inkjet printable. The thermal printable is not really suitable. I've also got hold of some very thin clear stick on covers to apply after printing to add a gloss finish. Haven't had a chance to try thme as yet.

BTW I've done over 200 DVDs with the printer with no problems and it also does service as my office ptinter.
