yeah... we gotta get used to this: something newer, better and sometimes cheaper released each month. Got my GH4 and they dropped a $900 4K camera! But, I'm happy where I am and no longer restrained by inferior technology. So, I'm good to go. :)

Next month, there will be a 6k "Alexa" beater for $350, but I am functional now. :D

"Contentment" is unprofitable, so it is being bred out of us. BEAT THE SYSTEM!!
DavidMcKnight wrote on 8/1/2014, 11:01 AM
Since this is OT anyway...
Contentment is the greatest financial principle. Followed closely by compound interest. Make them both work in your favor and you'll be much happier and much better off.

We shoot HD but still deliver DVDs on 95% of our projects. No plans to upgrade to 4K any time soon.

Anyone know the specs on the lens? Seems oddly missing. I could really use 10 bit tired of bad color.

+1 David McKnight

Shooting in HD. Delivery is DVD in 98%.

If and when it does 4k @ 60p, I'll be all over it. Although, I tend to doubt it will do 60p.

Lens - 12x optical zoom lens, plus 24x clear Image Zoom technology retains the quality of the HD image, and a digital extender allows you to zoom up to 48x.

I assume we are talking about the Sony's PXW-X70 Professional XDCAM Compact Camcorder? The 4K will be a future upgrade. Price has not been released yet.
John_Cline wrote on 8/1/2014, 2:33 PM
Apparently, this one is more than an AX100 with a handle and XLR audio inputs.

The Sony PXW-X70. Sometimes good things come in small packages!

Good timing. I was looking at an AX100 two days ago - didn't buy it because they wouldn't let me turn it on to test out the functionality! ("If you accidentally press record, we can't sell it as new")

So now the X70 is on its way .... as John says, it's more than an AX100 with XLR. As the AX100 already has 4k, the type of 4k planned for this cam must be better.

On the other hand, I was looking at the AX100 as an occasional second cam and don't really need the XLR, so I may wait and see how much its price goes down when the X70 is here.

I guess if you need for XLR mic kit on AX100, XLR-K1M can work...
It is listed as accessories on the Product page.

Except special bracket is required to attach it.

I looked at the XLR-K1M but it is very pricy and not really designed for the AX100. These are the reasons I decided on the Beachteck DXA-HDV.

I only need XLR when I am in a more controlled setting and for run and gun I use the ECM-CG50 from Sony which is a really good fit for the AX100 and doesn't require a bracket.

I`m sure the firmware upgrade will be pricey
John_Cline wrote on 8/2/2014, 11:45 AM
I assume that the AX100 has manual audio gain control?
Marc S wrote on 8/2/2014, 1:06 PM
Yes audio gain is manual.
Pete Siamidis wrote on 8/3/2014, 1:53 PM
Until this gets 4k support, I really wouldn't personally consider it a pro version of the AX100. To guys like me that film only in 4k, this camera just wouldn't work for us right now. Have to wait and see how much the 4k firmware upgrade will cost, and when it will be available.
