This excellent receiver is on sale from e-Cost.com with free shipping and no handling charge (which they sometimes slap on some items) when I ran a mock order. The only other complaints I have seen have been some occasionally poor packing of the items they ship, but lately I have seen that from every office supplier and even Amazon.com.

Interesting. I just purchased a Denon 983 100 watt per channel 7.1.
It was a learning experience. Found out that with all of the specification hoopla that they are absolutely depending on you purchasing a powered sub woofer do get any decent bass. I use a stereo amp with an equalizer with my Klipschorns and can blow the house down. When I hooked up the 7.1 and set it for large speakers I wondered what happened to all the bass. After some "E" mails with Denon they said you have to use your old amp with the equalizer and drive it with the front pre-amp out jack from the 7.1. After that everything was fine. Then I went and ordered a 15 inch subwoofer and 4 more surround speakers. I wonder what will happen next? And I only upgraded to test my Vegas-5.1 sound on a more profound basis then with computer speakers. Then I find out that the Toslink circuits in the receivers and the DVD players and HDTV tuners are all different (different specs) and that the big guy's are using the coaxial jacks instead. They claim signal loss and low end rolloff with the Toslinks. Ater I spent $130.00
for speaker wire I find out thats another gotcha. Gotta get the good stuff. You know, gold plated 12 gauge shielded. Then find out everything comes in black so now I have to figure out how to change all the speakers and grilles to walnut. Then I find out that the custom coaxial cables with RCA connectors are one way only and don't hook them up backwards. (arrows on the quad shielded coax) Starfleet Command says "big speakers on one side of the room and HDTV on the other side" That means 50 foot interconnect cables. The cables are now about filling up the 1.6 inch holes I drilled in the ceiling. So I have to watch the movies backwards with the big speakers behind me
and the occasional head spin to get the right affect. But I'm not complaining.

Hmmm. Guess I better stick with my Yamaha/Paradigm/Polk Audio set-up. At least I don't have to turn my head. ;-)
