OT! Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ Runs Short

Ok... I know I should have other sourses of info, but this forum is the greatest and I have come to reley on it - pretty much exclusively.
I just recorded (or, tried to record) a couple BetaSP tapes on a UVW1800 through component onto my DSR45. I put in a Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ and then played the UVW1800 and Play/Record on my 45. I didn't notice that the info field on the 45 read that only 43 minutes were left to record. And, indeed, the tape only recorded 43 minutes. Am I mistaken in believing that a Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ is a 63 minute tape? Obviously!
Or is there a setting that I'm missing?
Thanks for any help advice and ideas.

The 63's ARE 63 minutes long if played/recorded in a typical MiniDV camera/deck. However, if you are using a camera or deck that records in a different format (and speed) then, yes, it will give you a reduced amount of time. DVCAM uses the faster speed. Change the mode of the deck to DV and you should get the full amount.

it is a 63 minute tape. However the DSR is DVCam is it not? So the time would not be 63 minutes, it would be less. I think you need to switch it over to mini-DV mode...but I am not 100% sure.

That was it! It was set in DVCAM mode. I wonder if that means I get better quality - like SP mode compared to LP mode.
Thanks for the super-quick reply. I learned something about my deck today.

You're both quite right.
I went into the menu and found the different modes. I'm running MiniDV in the DSR45, which, as you noted, is DVCam.
Thanks again!
