[OT] particleIllusion 2.0 SE problem - ugly Halos

Hello All,

I have just started to practise with the free version of particleIllusion 2.0 SE that most users here obtained sometime last year from that English magazine (have been too busy to have so much fun until now!). On reading the On-line Manual, Tutorial #1, I see that the Output Options has the "Save Alpha" greyed out while the "Shrink" and "Remove black bg from RGB channels" options are not even shown.

However, at the end of the manual, in Tutorial #4, in the section, "Removing Dark Halos" (which is EXACTLY what I'm trying to do!) ALL the options are shown. It seems strange to show two different Output Options dialog boxes if they are not available. One might presume that the limitations are for the SE and not the Full version. However, this Tutorial Manual specifically mentions the SE version all throughout and so it seems logical that these options should be available but that I just can't get at them.

I realise from the manual that a limitation of SE is that you cannot have layer transparency (presumably alpha channels). However, I just want to get rid of those #$%^&* halos!

Q1 - Do I need to 'activate' something or other to get all the Output Options or are they only available in the Full version? (Other than activating my checkbook for v3.0).

Q2 - I also note that some of the demo Emitters mentioned in the Tutorial are not available even though the manual is written for SE. Is this supposed to be so or have I missed something during installation?

Q3 - It seems to me that, if such an important feature as getting rid of those ugly halos is not available, then we have not really obtained a free working version but a severely nobbled demo. Is this an unfair assessment?

Regards,
Neil Porter

I couldn't wait to get my hands on that software last year and I have yet to use it.

I played with the 2.0 SE version off the demo disc from DIGIT magazine you refer to. Can't recall having that kind of problem, Upgraded to 3.0 recently and have great fun with the product.

There's a forum for PI over at CreativeCow. Might get some insight there. Darryl
