ot - pc upgrade

you'd hate for me to move in next door to you - i'd forever be popping in to borrow a cpu, or something. (hey bob, you might just experience it for real ;-)

ok. having got hdv sorted out (since i'm looking at a sony v1, 720p is going to be an extra step i might as well skip).

so, that leaves upgrading my pc. happy with everything as is, so thought up the m/b and cpu to core2duo...

a. please recommend good (ie. affordable) cpu. i don't need cutting edge (given up bleeding to death on it), and m/b.

b. i've read in various groups about having to reinstall everything and reregistering software (especially xp) on major upgrades. does this also mean restoring from an image (acronis back-up)?

I will upgrade theses days:

from:
Athlon XP3000/Asus mb

to:

Core 2 Duo E6300 (best performance/price ratio, i.e. about 3 times faster for $200... )
Asus P5BE


I don't think it's a good idea to keep anything from previous system installation and will do a fresh install myself.
