Didn't realize that the storage to Blu-Ray would recompress to an lesser format. Glad you mentioned it.

That does seem to be a problem however there might be a good reason for it. I think only the very high end HD SDI can handle 1920x1080 so for most broadcasters it's going to have to be squished down anyways. Still be nice to have the option to not have to do it.

Other more interesting thing is that Sony have changed the wrapper in a concession PPro to MP4. Now what does this mean. Is this the same wrapper as Panny uses, if so will this mean V8 can read both. We live in hope.

1920x1080x24p at 8bit:4:2:2 output via the SDI. That is indeed good news for indie film makers. Sony has been listening, booyah!!.

Backup to Blu-Ray doesn't lose resolution. But backup to XDCAM does. Currently.

Based on pricing, it seems it would be less expensive to use a BD burner and blank data disks. At least for personal use.
