OT: Portable recorder under 200$?

VMP wrote on 6/7/2007, 4:20 PM
I need a portable audio recorder (pocket size), and a small mic that can be attached near the subjects nek for recording audio/ voice.

Mic with semi long range recording capability.

I am going to use this with my VX2000.
Synch it with a clapperboard I guess.

I am thinking of a recorder not much bigger than a Mini disc/ dat recorder.

HD memory based is what I think is handy?

Audio Quality is important though, I dont know if that is possible under 200$

Any advice?

Thanks,

How about 'Edirol R1' or the Marantz PMD 670 Professional Solid State Recorder?

It is more expensive but anyone use it?

do a search here for Iriver. A lot of folks were using Iriver flash MP3 players that allowed you to record to Wav. You had to supply the mike, but they sound was suppossed to be excellent.

I don't remember how much I bought the zoom h4 for, but it is a great little recorder. It feels cheap and is a bit clunky with the options, but it does a good job.

Zoom H4 is currently selling for US $300 from several suppliers. AmericanMusicalSupply has free shipping and 3 payment plan. I bought one two weeks ago and had it overnight. The unit has replaced my Sony $2700.00 DAT portable.

Hi, yes I see all over the internet good info about the Zoom H4.

Can you give me any tips on what exter mic I could go for?

You know a mic that you can clip on your shirt etc like on interviews.

Zoom H2 will be under $200, but is not coming out until August.

Is the Zoom H2 following up the H4? or is it called the H2 because it is smaller than the H4? is it goeing to be better?

Preview of the H2:

I don't believe there are any hand-on reviews yet. What might be a deal killer for some is the the H2 doesn't take XLR inputs, only unbalanced.
