I know, I know, this rootkit mess is an old story. But I was reading an article in Fortune Magazine today about the merger of Sony/BMG, and it looks like it was a marriage made in hell even before anyone knew what a rootkit was. Can't pull up the article yet in the Fortune archives--it was in the Nov 28 edition.
Then this article appears, which describes that the groups represented on those CDs are getting killed during the most important buying weeks of the Christmas season. Watch as Sony/BMG gets sued by their own groups for lost revenue and damaged careers. It's not going to be pretty.
So, what does Sony do? I suspect the only thing they can do is wash their hands of the entire CD business, or at least the portion represented by BMG. I really feel sorry for those execs, managers, and workerbees who had nothing to do with this fiasco but who will lose their jobs regardless.
