I loved my Epson R220, but the black ink just clogged, couldn't get it unclogged (even with a special solution for that problem). I also loved my Epson R200 before that, but it too clogged.
I could have bought an R280 for $50 (off craigslist) but it uses different ink so I would have to get a different CIS. But with the clogged heads, I've given up on Epson. I didn't want to go through that a third time, no way.
I just bought a Canadian version Canon iP4500 off eBay and can't wait to get it. It comes ready to print DVDs with no modification and the tray is included. I had to pay just over $150 as they are now getting scarce.
The good news is the iP4500 has compatible CIS systems so I'll be getting one soon. The newer iP4600 doesn't (at least not yet). I couldn't imagine using a printer without a CIS.
There are a couple more Canadian version iP4500 printers still available on eBay, I recommend you snatch them up before they're gone.
I'm also putting in my 2c for the HP - love it but hey you got a plan to print on to Blu-ray? That's something I've been scratching my head over... any thoughts you could share?
Ahhhh.... see I have yet to come across printable Blu-ray discs at my local big box electronic stores or costco... And when I've asked they have just looked at me like I'm mad. Thanks though - good to know they're out there.
I received my iP4500 and it works great. Prints to DVD without modification. I'm in between projects so I haven't printed much with it yet but from what little I have, I think it's going to be a great printer.
It seems that Canadian version iP4500s aren't as scarce as I thought since there seems to be a few always listed on eBay. A few people must have had the foresight and bought up a bunch of them and are now releasing them one-by-one. I'd recommend getting a Canadian version over a US one even if it costs a little more. You won't have to buy a tray and not have to mess with modding it.
Now for the CISS. The guy I bought my Epson CISS and refill inks- HERE (which I highly recommend) doesn't carry one for the iP4500. I checked. So now I have to find another supplier for the iP4500. I found one from THIS eBay store who has a chipped system. But I'd hate to have to "go" to Austrailia to get it and refill ink in the future. What he writes in the listing sounds great but I wonder if it's just marketing hype or if it's valid to warrant the extra cost. Surely there has to be a US supplier of a good quality CISS (and ink).
Who can recommend their Canon CISS and where you got it. Thanks.
