I have three Maxtor external firewire drives/enclosures, and one Pyro 1394 Drive Kit. I installed a WD 80-gig drive in the Pyro some time ago, filled it up with audio that I need to hang onto, and so, went out and purchased a Maxtor Diamond Plus 100-gig drive to swap into the Pyro.
Gosh darned thing refused to reveal itself to WinXP pro (yea, yea, I went through all the WinXp Diskpart List Volume routine . . . disk refused to be seen).
Signed onto Maxtor's website . . . there was a message that I should download a new vesion of their disk preparation software . . . but it turned out to be buggy and wouldn't work, either.
Finally, I hooked the drive up to a spare computer running WinMe and ran the supplied Maxtor installation softare to partition and format the drive. Once properly formatted, the drive shows up and functions as expected in the Pyro enclosure.
Anyone else have problems getting WinXP to recognize external firewire drives?
Just curious. This little problem derailed me for the better part of an evening. I think it should be easier than this (just MHO).
