OT: Ready For Quad-Core Processor?

Just as I was gearing up to move to dual-core processing, I read they're working on quad-core processors for next year.

Man, it's getting nearly impossible to keep up with this stuff!

Hmmm... I'm afraid that one flew over my head. Haven't had my morning coffee yet, however.

I'm still typing away on my AMD XP 2100 single-core system here. Waiting in the wings (actually, in the closet nearby) is an ASUS A8V motherboard and an AMD 3800x2 dual-core processor, which I assume will be about 3 times faster than this one. I wonder how much faster a quad-core system would be than the x2.

Great! By the time I get around to buying a dual-core system, they'll be dirt-cheap!

That's the best thing about technological progress. Lots of cheap, cast-off "obsolete" gear for skinflints like me!

They've been out for a few years... You could get Opteron's in Single, Duel, Quad or (not windows supported) 8 CPU config's. Last year they released duel core optron's I think & that (obiviously) doubled the cores.
