OT - "real" picture frame need

dibbkd wrote on 7/6/2007, 7:02 PM
I'm trying to find some kind of picture frame I can use to show off my favorite printed frames of some of my kids videos.

I don't want to use a "regular" kind of picture frame from Target or whatever.

edit: Something like http://www.woodcraftplans.com/rd2001.htmthis one[/link] or http://www.take1.com/frames.htmthat one,[/link] but I want something better, but that should give you a clue of what I'm talking about.

I'd like some that hold pictures in the 16:9 ratio that my videos are, and because they're basically saved jpg images from video, they can't be much larger than 4x6 or maybe 5x7 to not lose resolution.

It would also be cool if the picture frame looked kinda like a reel of film with picture slots in it.

I hope I described what I'm looking for OK and that somebody has seen something like this. I googled around a bit and didn't find anything that was what I wanted.

Thanks!

OK! Lets get creative!!

* Video some REAL FRAMES and Bezier a hole in that

* Make a montage of REAL things - maybe stuff that your kidz vibe on - and create FRAME from that lot!

* Here's the BIGGIE!! - Have your kidz created a series of FRAMES and video them and then Bezier a hole in that! Just draw up a 16:9 pencil frame and let 'em go with crayons, paint sticky stuff. In fact, if you do a time lapse of them DOING it then you have a really neato video to include too!!

* Now here's the really big BIGGIE! Choose elements of the frame and animate them!

. ..

Great fun!!

C'mon! Get creative!!

Grazie

I think dib may be looking for real picture frames. The kind that you buy from a store and put printed photo's in and hang on a wall or stand on a table.

Don't see too many of them around these days. :~)

Buy the frames that have no frame and then grab some of the ideas from above and print the pics with the 'frame' as part of the print.

Bob.

Edit: Or else print the frame onto card, cutout middle and use that to frame the picture so it has some depth. You can buy precut mounts too with bevelled edges, just stick printed designs onto that.

Alan, yes, I'm looking for "real" picture frames, wood or plastic...

Something like http://www.woodcraftplans.com/rd2001.htmthis one[/link] or http://www.take1.com/frames.htmthat one,[/link] but I want something better, but that should give you a clue of what I'm talking about. Hard to explain...

Some cool frames there dib and rjk and I think some of Bob's ideas could look great if you have the patience and the tools to make your own.

Edit: What happened to the "real" in the original title. Was it the quotes that knocked it out?

Oh! When I read "real" picture frame, I took to mean the frames that go around pictures.

I've actually MADE those Sprockets film-strip frames. Did it in PsP.

I added "real" to the subject as an edit.

and Grazie, I'm talking about physical picture frames for PRINTED pictures.

I'm still googlling around trying to find the perfect thing I'm looking for.

I think your biggest challenge might be getting a frame in 16x9, I don't think I've seen any off the shelf frame that's 16x9.
You could try asking a plastics fabricator to make what you want. Most have NC pantographs for cutting polycarbonate sheet. For a one off the setup costs can be a killer but if you want a few of them it might be economically viable. Or to look at it another way. If you want something like this, it's quite likely you're not the only one on the planet with that need that isn't being met so there might be an opportunity in it.
