OT: Red 4 Render queue buttons gone?

kentwolf wrote on 10/25/2006, 9:33 AM
Hey:

Anyone else using Red 4 with Vegas?

Question: Does anyone know what happened to the buttons in the render queue dialog box?

I am talking about the normal "Render Now" button, trash can, etc. I do not see them by default. When I fully expand the window, I do see the icons at the very bottom of the dialog box. I am not talking about those. I would just simply like to see the normal buttons at the top of the dialog like used to be there on Red 3GL.

I just got Red 4.0 a week ago. But since I have not worked with any prior release of Red, I can't compare the usability of 4.0 with that of 3GL. However, I can compare the behavior of my installation with yours if necessary.

I can tell you that I have noticed a number of problems and have had an occasional crash here and there. One particular problem I see are incorrectly generated thumbnails in the Library Browser. For example, if you look at the one entitled "Light", all the thumbnails that involve the V1 proxy soccer ball and V2 proxy brick wall are solid black. Note, they have been generated do not have the circle/backslash symbol. Do you see the same?

I have used Red 3GL before, but my official version of 4 should be here in an hour or so via UPS. :) So, I am prepping my system.

Once I do my final install, I will get back to you on this.

One thing I will say, it looks like the Render Queue button answer is that they are now using the buttons at the bottom of the dialog box. I could swear that I saw a picture of the Render Queue dialog in the Red 4 Help File showing the buttons up top, as in previous versions. Perhaps a Help File typo.

I will look for the issue you stated and tell you what I see.

Thanks.

Tech Diver:

Well, I received my copy of Red 4 this evening after waiting all day...took a day off work and everything...AND THERE'S NO SERIAL # WITH IT!!!

I was ON-FIRE!!!

I wrote to Boris support and will hopefully get a serial # tomorrow...

Jim, the serial number is on a small sticker located at the bottom of the first page (inside cover) of the manual. They make no mention of its location during the installation process or anywhere in their documention. Hopefully it is there and not forgotten by them.

Peter

PS: By "manual", I actually mean that little insert in front of the CD case.

Unfortunately, I received no manuals like I did for 3GL.

I received an e-mail from Boris asking me if I tried my Red 3GL serial # for the Red 4 installation. Apparently, that is standard operating procedure for Boris. I have not yet been home to try this, but I will be shortly. That steamed me even more...and I am NOT a hot head. Did I have a good serial # and didn't even know it?

I have never heard of a serial # being good for two (2) different version products.

It sure would have been nice had this been posted somewhere.

I'll post what I find... :)

Thanks!

OK, I found out from Boris tech support why some of my thumbnails are blank. When you generate the thumbnails it should be done from STANDALONE mode, and not from within Vegas as a plugin. In standalone mode an image of a soccer ball is used for Video1 and a brick wall for Video2. As a Vegas plugin, V1 and V2 are black because the Vegas interface does not pass the video clips to Boris Red.

If you did generate incorrect thumbnails, you can force them to be regenerated by typing "U" (as in Un-generate) when accessing the Library Browser. You can then regenerate them by clicking the Generate button as you normally would.

Jim, did they have to give you a new serial number or did the old one work for you?
