OT: Red Giant one day sale

40% of everything. Not that much of their product lineup works in Vegas but if you've got AE you might be interested. Red Giant recently bought out Digital Anarchy and have rejigged some of the packages to be better value for money. I've been learning the ins and outs of Text Anarchy that I bought for half price via DJ. Lots of fun to be had with this however all these FXs do require considerable time to get to know and a bit of skill to get the most out of. Certainly not one click for instant visual awe and wonder.

Instant HD Advanced is a scaler that is very different from other products of this type as well as from the built-in scalers in After Effects, etc.

It analyzes multiple frames to create each new high definition frame with a higher resolution than is possible with single frame analysis. This is obviously extremely CPU-intensive (aka slow) unless you have a multicore CPU (8-core is ideal, 4-core works OK, 2-core is for patient people or for short clips).

It does take full advantage of up to 8 cores at least.

Thanks for that. I have a client who needs to upscale a lot of SD.

Question. I've been looking at Topaz Enhance which I thought used the trick of analysing multiple frames, is Instant HD different / better?

I have followed development of this technology over the years from when it first appeared as a thesis along with the source code but then it went underground for a while and now appears to have been reborn in commercial applications, which one though is what I'm not certain of now.

I have both, but only got Instant HD Advanced a few days ago (at 50% off :O) so I haven't had time to compare.

My suspicion is that they are about the same for progressive footage, but Instant HD is better for interlaced.

Will run some tests as soon as I can, but it probably won't be before 9pm PST today.

Is the version of Looks that came with Vegas upgradeable?
If so, it would only be around $60 today.

To qualify for the upgrade, you must have purchased Magic Bullet Editors 1.0 or 2.x (all platforms) OR Sony Vegas 7.0 with Magic Bullet Movie Looks.

Yep, $60!
