OT: Rendering in Proshow

Galeng wrote on 9/1/2010, 10:12 PM
I've been using Proshow Producer recently for slideshows. My projects are usually 15 mins or so. Sometimes there is only one layer per slide, other times there maybe up to 15 layers per slide with multiple pictures, various backgrounds, blurring, color enhancement, etc. Transitions are all simple crossfades.

When I render I usually create the DVD directly from Proshow.

When producing an SD DVD (720x480, 29.07fps, 8Mbps) the render time is typically 5 - 6 times faster than the project itself.

When producing Blu-ray DVDs (1920x1080, 24fps, 25mbps) it renders about 2 times faster than the project length.

If I create something comprable in Vegas Pro 9e the rendering time is WAY more than Proshow.

Does anyone know how Proshow can do it so fast??

Thanks.
Galen

I've noticed the same thing. However, I stopped using ProShow and do all my slideshows in Vegas now. I had been using ProShow Producer for quite a while, until I burned a BluRay disk. The output was not acceptable when played back....... e.g. the panning and zooming were not smooth. Their software is great for standard DVD output, but they haven't got the BD burning perfected like Sony has. I called tech support at Photodex, but they said BD is new to them and they couldn't offer any assistance.

I have not played with blueray in Producer yet, but some others in the enthusiasts group have - if you are not familiar with the Proshow Enthusiasts group, check them out. I use Producer all the time to create intermediate uncompressed avi files that I then bring into Vegas to finish off and on to DVDA. Check out the enthusiasts group though - good bunch there :-)

Agree with Mikey above.... bring in Proshow as rendered avi into Vegas and render to Blu-ray. I regularly use this for slide show within a HD video presentation. Perfectly smooth.

What settings would you use in Producer to create an AVI ultimately for Blu-ray? What if the photos are 4:3 to be shown on 16:9 TV? For Example:

Type: Custom
Format: AVI-compressed
Compression: ??? eg Cineform, ffdshow, etc. ???
Resolution:1920x1080
Frame Rate: 25 or 30
Aspect Ratio: Square pixels or 4:3 or 16:9

So far I've been very satisfied with Proshow for both SD and Blu-ray disc creation. Smooth motion so far on pan and crops.

But, I would also be curious about the uncompressed avi settings for tranfer to Vegas for ultimate output to Blu-ray disc.

I am not a sophisticated user of Vegas, so I would not be able to recreate many of the slide style effects from Proshow in Vegas.

Thanks.

Also thanks for the tip about the Proshow enthusiast group.

Set Proshow to the same parameters as the Blu-ray template you are using, ie 1920 or 1440 x 1080 16:9
In Proshow zoom each photo to fill the 16:9 frame.
Use uncompressed avi for best quality.
