OT: Reset Photoshop Counter

Butch Moore wrote on 6/14/2012, 10:21 AM
I'm hoping a PS guru can give me a quick answer. Never had to go to the PS forums and hope I never do.

I'm scanning several hundred (over 600) pages using Photoshop. It would be a time saver if the assigned file names were the same as my page numbers. The file name counter has gotten off track (I closed the program overnight) and I would like to reset it to begin with a particular number and continue sequentially.

I've searched the "Help" files and Googled it, but to no avail.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

First, let me ask a stoopid question.
Why are you using Photoshop to scan?

Your workflow in PS depends on your scanner connection. Twain or WIA? If you are talking about the _001, _002 suffix, it's not stored anywhere. PS just looks for the highest IMG_000 numbered file in the target folder. Did you move the scanned images from the target folder?

I simply use the scanner program that comes with my Epson scanners. Two clicks and I am done. Unlike the 5 or 6 from Photoshop. And in the Epson utility I have a lot more control over the filename, type and sequential counter.

Steve,

I'm using several Photoshop "Actions" that follow the scanning process. Some pages are rotated, some I want in B/W, resized, etc. I simply click the action I want, it scans and does the rest. I see what you're saying, but for this project, PS is a time saver.

Back to my issue (which probably doesn't belong here), after I closed the program last night, I reopened and began scanning again today. The sequence reset to 001 and replaced several of my earlier files without notification. I've done a work-around and am about half finished. I was just curious if there was a place to adjust the numbering system. It's odd behavior, so maybe its something I've done. If I figure it out, I'll let you know!

Thanks
