You should see what comes in for Sundance. Elaborate packaging with a hand-written DVD inside.

I was a little concerned that because it is going to be a retail product, and I thought it might get reflected in the review, especially if we make the mock up packaging good enough to look like a poor manufactured release.

Have some labels made, for the outside packaging: "Pre-Release Review Copy."

Usually, there is some sort of disclaimer about art in progress, etc.
If it's going for distribution review, it's entirely possible the distributor might want some input to final art anyway.

When the company I used to work for [Spiratone] advertised in the monthly photo magazines, we used to get the first bound copies as proofs. Every one of them had a label on it stating "Not for Quality." I always felt that to be a ready target for an editorial put down.
