OT...Royalty Free Music for Video

davebreen wrote on 3/12/2002, 12:37 PM
Can anyone provide any good sources of royalty free music to be used as background music for video projects? Based on a Yahoo search I found numerous sites, but all seem to be fairly pricey (compared to what I would like to spend anyway).

If anyone has found a good source..please let me know.

Ps. I realize that SF has loop products to build royalty free tracks...but I'm musically challenged.

Just saw an ad for the Backtraxx in this month's Videomaker magazine. 400$. All royalty-free.

HTH.

Buyout music comes in many flavors and qualities. I have a fair lib of it. My favorite is Smart Sound. www.smartsound.com. It is about $129 a disc. Most of the music is live musicians not midi. It ranges from full Orchestra to Solo performances. The quality is first rate. They liscence the stuff from Killer tracks, the Bakery and other expensive needle drop libs.

For corporate stuff I use the Davenport Lib which is 90% midi. www.davenportmusic.com. About $30 a disc. The quality is good and consistant. The composistions are good and I never fail to find a theme for a corporate piece.

Lasty I have stuff from the Fresh Music Lib. www.freshmusic.com. The prices are good at about $60 a Disc. The quality varied. I have the discs which have acoustic tracks on it like folk music and the Narration backdrops. These are well produced and useful. The variety of other stuff is large. Some midi some smal group etc. Quality varies some so preveiw to see if it is what you need. I have had good success with thier stuff this way.

As a last item, there is PBTM Live -http://www.pbtmlive.com/- where, if you are on a tight budget, you can download a number of cuts at $15 a cut and just grab what you need. The music is a combination of acoustic and midi stuff but you can preview it to see what it is. They also have a disc lib at www.PBTM.com, Discs start at $79 each for one and drop to $29.00 in quantity.

BTW so I do not wrongly offend anyone, when I say midi, I am usually referring to sampled music. Some sampled stuff is great and I use it for production myself. Other is cheap garbage. unfortunatly when I say midi I acidentally lump it together.

I hope that helps

I have been reviewing the Backtrax Lib from Digital Juice. It does look like a good value for corporate use. It has a somewhat corporate feel to it, but it is well produced and the intro price is excellent.
