OT: Samsung Warranty Service

One of my side interests is researching user reviews for electronics products because reliability is at the top of my list of factors before I buy or recommend anything.

I read through this thread regarding a few Samsung DLP TV owners experience with Samsung warranty terms and their service centers. It was something I felt sort of obligated to share with all of you since CRT sets are on the way out and Samsung is a very popular brand. After reading this I know I wouldn't want to own one despite the fact that their sets look very nice overall.

man, that thread is a nightmare... :(

anything can break for any reason. If you're REALLY worried about it breaking (good rep for product/cust service or not) get the store warranty for a few years.

I had an ASUS MB die on me a few years ago. It was a free fix, but I sent it in & it took ~3 weeks to get it back. So I ordered a new MB. But if I bought it at a store (ie Circuit City) I could of called their 1-800 #, they would of sent me a replacement/full refund (minus the warranty $$) & then I send them the defective one (if they sent me a replacement).

I've used store warranty's twice (HP DVD+R burner & 17" monitor) & had NO (zero, zilch, nada, 4/0) problems. Just a phone call & they send me a replacement or $$ refund. Then I go buy a new whatever.

I know. It's starts off bad, but as you read through the three pages it gets worse and worse. Frightening really. Samsung has nice quiet hard drives, but they are the only one that only has a one year warranty.

Not a bad idea about store warranties.
