Hi - I wanted to get your feedback on my latest 60-second spot, hot off Vegas this am, at:

http://www.WinningChartPatterns.com

any critique/comments? (also, the last animation, a DJ fireworks motion element, wouldn't render in color, no matter what settings I used - any ideas? I tried lower field first/upper, uncompressed avi, everything, and no dice .. though the other motion elements all rendered in color .. that's odd - ideas?)

thx all,

ken calhoun

One crit? . . I wanna see the BG and I wanna see the products too! Kinda confused me .. The graph demo was excellent . . Maybe a bit more slomo-ed of Wall Street signage?

As a fellow commercial maker, I had a few thoughts (bear in mind, I only make :30s); I loved the action and energy. Great choice of music to keep people pumped!
However, the repetive nature distracted me. There wasn't enough info (in my opinion) to warrant a :60. I didn't understand why you repeated the same graphic.
Still, the energy was there and a second viewing was better for me (the first viewing I was scratching my head as to why I was seeing the same thing over and over).
Overall, I liked it.
As for your colour issue; check and double check your settings. Play the clip (the original) in a different player - any other player and see if it's colour there. Re-import the clip and check those settings on Import. If you KNOW the original clip is colour, chances are it's a setting you've missed somewhere.

awesome bass at the end when heard on a subwoofer ...

thanks - great tips... nice to see someone noticed the end hit w/bass... now if only I could get the fireworks in color... driving me nuts, I tried all kinds of renders, looks great in vegas video preview, but doesn't render into color avi/wmv/whatever.. ah well..

good point re repetitive, I was in a rush :p need to be more creative w/coverage.. also a panning product shot /box shot of the dvd would be a good idea to put at the end vs more stock market footage, great tip - thanks!

Are you using the fireworks straight as an element, or are you compositing them? How do you have the Parent/child tracks set up?

I agree that the energy and motion where good, and that it was a bit repetetive. Of course, i know absolutely nothing about the topic and don't care ever to, so i may not be able to review it as well as others.

As far as the fireworks are concerned, while it would be nice to figure out the color problem, i think it would be even better to ditch them. They just looked hokey after everything else. Stop the commercial at around 0:54 and you're done as far as i'm concerned.

Can't take any criticism, huh Ken?

great points all, I've re-rendered sans fireworks at the end, most everyone said to lose that, so I did ... now uploaded/streaming..

will do re integrating other strategies from from everyone - thx much!
