OT: see Superb News Chrome Title Logo Effect here?

ken c wrote on 7/22/2007, 2:22 PM
Hi, I'm hoping that one or more of you can help with this... I was wondering if
you know of who could create a logo for me, and/or if you could guess re what
app (AE/LW?) is used to create the professional news chrome logo for this video?

It's at:

http://www.theonion.com/content/video/breaking_news_all_online_data

The ONN chrome logo looks terrific for this... any ideas if it's after effects/lightwave or? to create it? and any recommendations re someone that could create something like that for me, for a reasonable fee? (and include source code so I could modify it later etc)..

thanks,

ken

I don't know if you can trust the Onion Network.........

A major problem with chrome is that you need something to reflect on it.
Can you give us either through here or IM above more info on the scene
you want to insert it into?

You can definitely do this type of thing in Bluff Titler.

It would be about 6-10 hours work depending on how faithful and complex a reproduction you wanted.

Sorry Ken. I went to the link but got side-tracked by the Harry Potter date rape video.

ONN is definatly more reliable then FOX News.

Don't forget to watch "BREAKING NEWS: ALL ONLINE DATA LOST AFTER INTERNET CRASH" at http://www.theonion.com/content/video/breaking_news_all_online_data.

Priceless.

Try http://www.elance.com, you may be able to get somebody to make it for you for as little as $50 depending on their ratings and location.

It might be worthwhile for something simple like this to go for somebody who wants to climb in the ratings.

Hi, thanks.... those are the kind of title graphics I need for various sites, like my tradingtelevision.com one, so that's why I ask, re the simplistic vegas titles. Bluff works well, but agree it would take at least 6 hours to get something similar done w/that... I'm thinking lightwave or after effects would be more powerful, but probably just as time consuming...

good idea re elance, but I don't think any professional video editors hang out there... I could be wrong... that would be a good idea to have a video editor's bid board somewhere... thanks for the tips..!

Hi Andrew, thanks... a url link to a portfolio of similar work + references would be great.
I can do a great job w/bluff etc myself, I need a pro AE/LW coded version w/source.

URL to your portfolio of similar projects? I need to see what you're able to do. and for anyone else who's interested too for that matter - thanks!

thx,

k

Good idea re elance, but I don't think any professional video editors hang out there.

There are all kinds there, but in this case you should be looking for a 3D artist first, because that's likely to be the most cost-effective. This job could certainly also be done in After Effects, but then you'd likely pay more.

An elance.com Provider Search for "3d animation logo" gave 63 results in the Audio, Video & Multimedia category, starting at $12/hour.

Hey thanks, I had no idea there were any video folks on elance, I thought it was mostly coders. Good idea too re 3d artist/animation - I appreciate it. That kind of logo certainly adds to the professionalism/network logo look of the videos.

Hi Andrew, thanks... but that demo is like what I can currently do myself in bluff .. I need a multi-surface beveled corporate look like the one on the onn original logo, eg a lightware or AE-type effect with multiple moving logs, surfaces, rotoscoped etc. Thanks anyways for taking a look at it, I appreciate it!

Regards,

Ken

If you want some of the work done for you but to be able to modify the object and the camera motion as desired then a videographer centric bundle from the people who make LightWave might be just the ticket.

http://www.newtek.com/3DA/gallery/newtek/

The "stage scenes" and "earth scenes" might be along the right lines.
Should be no issue flying the camera through from the back of a letter and through one of the holes/gaps in your chosen logo's letters.....

This could be the path to much bigger compositions but you'll be gratified without a massive learning curve AND the premium paid will likely ensure that your competition will not be clashing with your new abilities.

Hello Ken

I appreciate that, which is why it is just a quick sample to demonstrate the basic elements: background, reflective surfaces and dynamic logo.

A complete piece with all the elments you describe is only an extension of these basic elements.

It took less than an hour as opposed to the 6-10 hours to create the effect you are after.

Try Cool 3D Production Studio from Ulead. It does great chrome text effects. You can tell the surface of text to be a "reflection" and select the material as chrome. From there you have a lot of control of the motion and characteristics over time. It's a little quirky, but I've had great success with a number of projects like your example.

Neither Ulead nor Bluff will give you the same sophistication as the ONN sample shown. I'd shop around for freelancers who can show you their portfolio. No offense Andrew, but those samples on your site look too much like Cool 3D.
UKAndrewC wrote on 7/25/2007, 2:17 AM
No offence taken, because most of the ones on my site are Cool 3D

I do not agree that you cannot recreate the ONN logo with Bluff and Vegas. As I said previously, the elements are all there, just not in multiple quantities.

Anyway, the original qestion was can someone create these for a small fee, my answer was yes, which I can.

Andrew
