OT Sennheiser PC 350 headphone volume

Hello, was given these and just wondering if anyone can confirm whether it it possible to mute the headphones. There's an on/off switch for the microphone but the dial for the headphones doesn't go to zero. Surely it should? Thanks.

Not sure why you would think that the control should totally mute the volume. Sounds like normal to me.

If you were able to totally mute the headphone ... you'd have folks not hearing anything, and (forgetting that the volume is down to zero) trying to figure out what is wrong someplace else in the chain.

I find it hard to believe that a volume control (this one's a wheel) wouldn't go down to zero. I'm wondering if it is broken. Surely if it is set by the user the user would remember setting it. Also physical cables should be the first things to check if sound levels are not as expected. Are non-mutable volume controls on headphones actually standard?
