OT: Sennheisher HD 280 Pros $80 at Newegg

Newegg has the Sennheisher HD 280 Pros at $80 today. Which is $20 lower than I have ever seen them at a reputable dealer.

They deliver more isolation than the Sony 7506's. I have a friend who is a sound mixer for film and tv and immediately after he tried the Sennheisher's he noticed how much more they isolate than the Sonys which uses daily. They are bigger and bulkier though and made of plastic where the 7506's are metal.

a review, another review

If you get them, these phones require a lot of break in time, so buy from a store with a good return policy. Immediately out of the box, the highs were very harsh, I hooked them to a CD player and played some bass-heavy music and left them in a drawer for four days. You can notice the difference in the bass and the highs.

I got my Sennheiser HD 535's from UBid several years ago for $40 new, one of the best deals I've ever seen. They sound wonderful, though I am definitely not a pro at mixing or anything.

The Sennheisher HD 280s are the standard for sound recordists on European film sets.

Sony 7506's are rather unpleasant to listen to, but this is also what has made them appreciated by many sound guys because they reveal flaws so well.

they are also $80 at BH Photo Video. Apparently it's their normal price, but you have to "add to cart" to see the real $79.95 price.

"they are also $80 at BH Photo Video."

Newegg's seems to include the 1/8" to 1/4" adapter.

mjroddy - I hadn't noticed that, but it sure looks that way. I went into B&H's "live chat" and asked if it comes with the adaptor. They assured me it does. Either vendor looks good. I've had only good experiences with both.

1/8" to 1/4" adaptor is standard, as far as I know. It's about a $0.30 part. :-]

I LOVE my HD-280s. ...nice cans, very comfortable. The build is great, and they fold flat for travel.

The only downside: They are NOT a great fashion statement. But then....what kind of geek is worried about a fashion statement?? :-)

When I wear my HD280s I kinda look like a Cyberman from Dr Who!

So they ARE a great fashion accessory! I might just take to wearing them down to the shops now!
