OT: Settings Question for EX1 or EX3 owners

Last minute - sorry

Have a second camera operator for Beauty and the Beast. Shooting in three hours and I wanted to shoot the EX1 along with my VX2000.

What would you recommend for settings on the EX1 to match up to the VX2000 for the 4:3 DVDs I will produce from this?

HQ 1080/60i?

HQ 720/60p?

HQ 720/30p?

Auto everything?

Thanks,

John

To be begin with, I wouldn't use auto anything.

Insofar as suggesting settings without being there to see it on a monitor... that's something I wouldn't even attempt.

Unfortunately, all I can do is wish you the best of luck with the shoot!

Thanks Jay,

The second camera person is a film student who owns a $300 canon cam herself so I figured auto everything would be the thing to do. I will be on foot with the VX2000 and she will be operating the EX1 from a tripod already set up by me.

No suggestion regarding shooting mode for down conversion later. I'll probably leave it HQ 1080/60i then.

I may not end up using the footage, but as I mentioned in another post, I can't very well set up a musical to play with the camera so I thought this would be a good first experiment in that setting.

So she shot it at HQ 1080/60i with auto everything except focus (of course).

A quick review of the footage indicates that it looks pretty darn good.

I'll have to look further when I get a chance.

I would have suggested 720p60 but I was late to the party :)

I've shot plenty in SP 1080i50, doesn't look too shabby when converted to SD for my money, HQ can only be better.

I know everyone poo poos anything auto but sometimes I think it's better to let the camera do somethings so you can focus on the critical things, like focus. Most people seem not to notice the odd bit of over or under exposure but out of focus is hard for anyone not to notice.

Your responses are Always appreciated Bob. I'll have to try HQ 720/60p next as you suggested. But maybe the interlaced footage she shot yesterday will be easier to match up to the VX2000 footage once I crop it. We'll see. Either way, I want to start switching over to the EX1 from the VX2000 so this was a good first step toward that end.

Thanks again.
